Guard Randy Foye and forward Craig Smith missed Minnesota's game against New Jersey while the Nets were without Bobby Simmons and Jarvis Hayes. Foye was out of Sunday's game with a hip injury that has bothered him for the last month. He played through the pain while also dealing with an ankle injury, but coach Kevin McHale said that the hip has continued to be a problem in recent days. Richard Jefferson is coming back to the Meadowlands. The Nets already have seen—and lost to—their former teammate when they journeyed to Milwaukee and were upended, 104-102, when Luke Ridnour scored on a floater at :00.5 just after Bobby Simmons had tied the game with a 3-pointer off a Vince Carter penetration. Jefferson had a bad game—3-for-15 shooting, 13 points in 38 minutes—but the Nets had an even worse night. Not only did they lose the game, they lost starting forward Yi Jianlian for up to six weeks with a broken right pinkie. Yi was part of the package—which also included Simmons—that the Nets received from the Bucks in the draft-day trade of Jefferson.
